Latvia, a country only 25 years old, has gained a lot of prestige internationally. This includes tourism, as the travel guide Lonely Planet has ranked this tiny nation of only 2 million at the #5 spot for Best in Travel in the world, falling short of Botswana, Japan, the United States, and Palau.
The publisher states that Latvia “is resuscitating ancient traditions, restoring crumbling castles and manor houses hidden in its pine forests, and transforming its once stodgy cuisine into cutting-edge New Nordic fare. Seductive Riga, meanwhile, has built on its reign as a European Capital of Culture with improved infrastructure and a round of renovations as its population continues to grow.”
Latvia may be the size of West Virginia, but their history and culture goes back thousands of years. You can’t ask for much more.
